The phillips family
The Bartow County Championship Rodeo started 45 years ago with one simple idea — keep the spirit of the American cowboy alive in North Georgia.
Back in 1980, Larry Phillips opened the gates at Phillips Ranch and introduced the community to the excitement, adrenaline, and skill of real rodeo competition. Larry grew up in a time when farms, horses, and Saturday cowboy shows were a way of life, and he wanted the next generation to experience that same western spirit. He then reached out to Wayne Allen and Joel Boss of the Bartow County Saddle Club to bring Championship Rodeo to Bartow County and Cartersville, GA
What began as a small hometown rodeo quickly grew into one of the most anticipated events in the region. And one of the largest rodeos in Georgia!
After Larry’s passing in 2001, the family kept the tradition alive. Today, the rodeo continues under the leadership of Danny. Bridgett, Danielle, and Sage Phillips.
Every year they carry on Larry’s vision — bringing great rodeo, great people, and great memories to Cartersville, GA
More than just a rodeo
In 2008, the Phillips family added something even
bigger to their rodeo events!
After battling breast cancer herself, Bridgett Phillips helped bring the national Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign to the rodeo.
Now, each year, the arenas fills with pink shirts, pink hats, and pink bandanas as fans come together to raise awareness and show support. A portion of the proceeds goes towards research and awareness as well.
It’s a powerful reminder that the rodeo community rides for more than just buckles.
We ride for each other.
